Services Engaged Value Management

Gasco intended to increase the processing, re-injection capacity and production of its gas plant at Habshan through the implementation of an additional gas treatment and processing train.

Davis Langdon conducted a Value Engineering study using their standard Value Engineering Process, tailored to respond to Gasco/Fluor’s project specific requirements. The study was undertaken during the Front End Engineering Design stage (FEED) using Process Flow Diagrams (PFD’s) and Plot Plans as input information.

Gasco’s primary objective was to optimise the overall cost and time in the execution of the project (all phases) without sacrificing either quality or technical integrity. Gasco also required that special attention be paid to environmental impact (no flaring during normal operation), and revenue maximisation. During this two-week study Davis Langdon worked with the design team to identify, select, develop and validate proposals. These expressed the advantages, opportunities, disadvantages, risks and impact on capital, operating and maintenance cost, time and performance to inform decision making.

Davis Langdon ensured that each proposal was reviewed from both economic and technical perspectives. The Value Engineering study enabled a comprehensive review of the FEED stage by on and off project specialists from the Client, the Project Team and other stakeholders.

94 ideas for improvement were generated which, after evaluation during the workshop, gave rise to 14 consolidated Value Engineering proposals to reduce the project’s capital cost by some US$4m.
