This is a PFI project to build a new Elective Care Centre and a research facility for diabetes. One of the countries leading professors in Diabetes research secured funding for the University of Cambridge’s element of the scheme.
The Elective Care element of the new facility is being constructed in order to meet the NHS targets for increasing the proportion of procedures carried out by day case surgery.
Davis Langdon was appointed in 2002.
The main challenges prior to Financial Close were achieving an affordable scheme and negotiating with the University of Cambridge their capital contribution to the scheme.
The new build of 21,000m2 gross internal area will be linked to the existing hospital complex.
The construction was estimated to take 2 years to complete and is on target and within budget for completion in the early part of 2007.
