At the former Manton Colliery site near Worksop, Nottinghamshire, B&Q Properties developed a warehouse facility to form the hub of the DIY giant’s retail deliveries.
The site lay dormant for nearly 10 years following the pit’s closure, and B&Q’s re-use of the brownfield land has brought further economic development to the area.
The £30 million project has a floor area of 878,000 square feet, and was completed over a contract period of 50 weeks, using the JCT 98 WCD form of contract.
An automated storage and retrieval system is located within a high bay warehouse. The low bay area houses a more conventional manual wide-aisle racking system, served via loading docks and level access doors.
Our client’s aspirations were met in terms of programme and cost. The critical access dates for the high and low bays were achieved, allowing the fit out works to commence on time. The professional team’s greatest success was to achieve a BREEAM excellent accreditation, exceptional for this type of development.
At Davis Langdon we have built up significant expertise in the management of sustainability issues, and we were able to guide our client accordingly, accommodating their exacting business objectives.
